please, clarify

Mr. Quiring!! I have just now heard that there won't be any electives and that it will be replaced with economics and family living instead. Please, clarify this decision, because there must be something I don't understand. Aren't electives required? Don't we have to have 2 years of art? I wanted to take photography!!!! Please, please, explain.

You should be careful who you listen to. He does not have the whole picture and only offered part of what he was told.

We are reducing the number of periods from 8 to 7 and eliminating the block format. Electives still exist, but not in the same way as the past.

- Economics has ALWAYS been required for seniors (one semester of economics and one semester of government/civics).
- Family living has been a freshman requirement for many years, except the last few. This is merely replacing one of the two freshmen study halls.
- Freshmen have a required elective: Spanish 1, with no study halls. That means there won't be any freshmen in the non-academic electives.
- Sophomores will also take Spanish 1 as an elective, but may take another elective instead of PE 7th period if they are in sports (because this year's freshies are in Span1, they will be offered Span2 next year as an optional elective).
- Juniors have two elective periods; one will be occupied by Spanish 2, if they choose to take it. The other has the normal electives.
- Seniors also have two elective periods, one of which will be occupied by Spanish 3.

As you can see, there are actually more opportunities for YOU to take electives. Freshmen and Sophomores, on the other hand, get another academic class out of the way (Span 1) and have a more academic schedule rather than loads of study halls. The idea is to make better use of school time rather than having kids sitting around in study halls NOT getting work done.

I have a feeling that you'll be taking Yearbook 7th period.

Nick, the sum of my thoughts is that you are just plain wrong. Sorry! It's well known fact that most freshmen waste their time. What are freshmen going to do for two periods of study hall other than that? Freshman year is so easy, the last thing they need is a double-period study hall. I can say that from experience, because it's exactly what I and my peers did. The school's decision to fill that gap is a wise one.

As for your first paragraph, DROP IT.

You all really need to stop this. Who cares!!! Nick, if there aren't any electies there is nothing you can do about it. Mr. Quiring, (out of respect and because you have all the application forms that control our lives) ignore Nick's comments whatever relevance they might have. My opinion is that Nick can't keep his thpught to himself and tells people to stir stuff up. That MY opinion and I understand that whether or not people like it or not there is nothing they can do about it. Whether or nott a person voices there opinion is up to them but it can't be taken that seriously, after all, IT'S AN OPINION!!!!! So drop it. Everyone! Especially you Nick.

Hope Everyones Having A Good Summer.
